Case control design: an efficient method to identify risk factors

Executive summary A case control study is a special type of retrospective study which can be used to identify risk factors or biomarkers for a disease. It requires relatively small sample sizes relative to a cohort study, particularly when the disease of interest is rare. This document describes how to design and perform a case control study and gives an example of how it might be relevant to clinical research in Radiology.
